I’ve booked and billed millions and millions of dollars of business in my day, the one thing I always try to remember is the same advice I now give my six year son, “treat people just like you want to be treated.”
What does this mean, when you bid out a project, effective communication is paramount throughout the process and make sure you tell every vendor, that the project had been awarded. One day you might need a specific vendor and if you treat everybody with respect then you’ll never burn bridges along the way. At one point aren’t we all the company trying to win new business and don’t we want to be treated with respect and integrity.
Here’s my advice, first develop a rating system for all prospective client and place each prospect in a category – like a simple 1, 2, 3 system. Then apply the rating process to each new prospect but give them each the respect they deserve, now carefully feed information based on the rating and the serious nature of the individual prospective client. You can burn a massive amount of energy on prospects if you don’t have a rating system and then effectively managed each prospect individually based on information gather during the first few meetings.
Michael O’Grady___doing business is all about respect and integrity. Respect, respect, respect, I say it three times for emphasis, in life and business, it’s brought me this far and I will always approach people with the utmost of respect, integrity and care. Just like I tell my son.
