Blast Email, the New Spam.

I have to tell you a story, please, it’s directly related to what you’re doing and because I just went through this scenario. I was looking for companies that offered high level SEO services and ended with a SPAM message from one of them, guess which one is going to get my business. The true and crazy tale follows.

I started my search, for service providers by going online and by asking other respected area business people, who they recommended. The recommendations were for two local companies and I reached out to both, the beginning phone conversations went well, but one companies conversation made me think and so I called them back to review our conversation and ask further question, still I had that feeling.

I got appointments from both companies, only one showed up to have the conversation in person. The other, canceled the appointment at the last moment and was nice enough to put me on their “blast email” list, which is new code word for SPAM!

How do I know this, well, I received a nice “blast-spam email” the same day as the no-show company, had canceled our appointment. Wow, like I was still interested in hearing their story, after they had so rudely cancelled via email, the morning of the meeting and made no attempt to call by phone.

How nice, a spam sandwich, with bad manners, bad sales protocol and even poorer prospect relationship building. Sweet, may have another. This is where I get to the spam part and how it can help your company or business build solid, trusting relationships, that grow and prosper.

First, what is SPAM?

Well, it’s any message you or your company sends, without permission. Period. I never gave this company permission but they sure took advantage of having my contact information, to send me a “blast-spam email.”

Here’s my advice about blast email and how to use it effectively and profitably:

  1. Get your prospects and clients email through completely transparent means.
  2. Then, as stated in the law, give them every opportunity, to opt-out – any time and make it very, very easy.
  3. Stop sending, “blast-spam emails” every other day, try once or twice a month.
  4. Send them on expected days and times, but don’t over send.
  5. Make the message – count.
  6. Make the message relevant, informative and for gosh-sakes, interesting.

Do you know why I say this, because everyone who reads this knows the truth, “WE DON”T READ THE STUFF BECAUSE YOU’R SENDING TO MUCH!”

Michael S O’Grady  - “try it, less blast email, you might like it and you’re bottom line might like it even better.”
