Direct to Device - iContent by Apple
Apple quite possibly is about to dominate another of the online arena - content delivered directly to a device. The iPad could be another game changer for Apple by creating an iTunes like interface which customers will customized content for daily delivery.
I expect in the next two or three years a new online store from Apple, “iContent” which will be geared toward delivering content directly to consumers via the new device - iPad. Bye-Bye - no more newspapers, magazines or websites except maybe through Apples portal, site, store or cloud.
Microsoft and Google better get their stuff together, Apple could dominate the next couple of generations of computing, consumer consumption of content and business communication especially in publishing, media, mobile, business, networks and the list goes on and on.
Imagine you have an Apple iMac desktop that talks to an iPad tablet that talks with a Apple iPhone, syncing instantly. No more managing multiple devices as you navigate through your personal cyber-content, everything is personal and tailored content and delivered direct.
Content delivery will only be a small portion of this delivery direct to devices and end users relationship, it might predict the end of blogging, podcasting, micro-sites except through the portal or ‘apps’ that are designed for Apples devices and providing complete integration of your your organizations custom publishing.
Think of it:
Music = iPod
Mobile = iPhone
Online Content = iPad
The New York Times has already signed up as an new iPad app client with the delivery of it’s new online strategy sties directly through and to the iPad and it’s users. Every publisher online and print will consider delivering directly to your Apple devices each morning: podcasts, video, TV, movies, books, music, apps and now all your content.
AOL has SEED.com where they are paying for content with stories like, “how to clean your cat’s litter box more quickly,” this article cost them $80 bucks for creation but Apple enlists and includes the whole world in the process thus ensuring complete participation. Is AOL path one pre-destined to irrelevance?
We’ll see should be interesting.
StellaPop! says inclusive collaboration online through app development all through one set of devices - Apples.
